Q. What is Botox/Xeomin/dysport?
A. 
Botox, is a specific brand name that is used to describe a type of Botulinum toxin, it is a prescription - only medicine that is only available from a qualified medical professional. The treatment works by relaxing facial muscles that cause wrinkles and lines when you smile and frown. Xeomin is another brand which is a more purified version of botulinum toxin. Dysport is also another common brand of botulinum toxin.


Q. Is it safe?
A. 
Botulinum toxin treatment should always be administered only by trained medical professionals. It is widely viewed as safe. It has been approved by the FDA (food and drug administration) and has become the most common cosmetic procedure. 


Q. What areas can be treated?
A. 
Frown lines, forehead lines and crows feet are the areas that can be treated, there are "off label" areas that can also be treated, which would need to be discussed with your medical professional in consultation.


Q. Who can have the treatment done?
A. 
Almost everyone over the age of 18 is suitable for Botox/Xeomin, however there are some cautions. We advise against pregnant or breastfeeding woman. Also if you have a muscle weakness disorder like motor neurone disease or myasthenia gravis.


Q. What are the side effects?
A. 
For majority of patients treated with Botox/Xeomin/dysport, any side effects are temporary and limited to where toxin was injected. Possible side effects include pain, burning or stinging, redness at site, bruising, local muscle weakness including drooping eyelids or eyebrows, headaches, nausea and flu like symptoms. 

Q. How long does it last?
A. 
The effects of treatments usually last up to 4 months and gradually decrease over time. Regular toxin treatments may help effects last longer and may help to reduce static wrinkles. 

 

Q. What is Juvederm/Belotero?
A. 
Juvederm/Belotero are brand names of a HA (hyaluronic acid) dermal filler, these products are used to fill and smooth out wrinkles, it helps with adding lost volume that is created by the ageing process. It is also used to help restore volume, including contouring, shaping and volumising of the lips.

Q. What are the side effects?
A. 
Juvederm/Belotero  dermal fillers have been used for many years and are generally well tolerated. While you may experiece no side effects at all, as with all medications, side effects can occur. Possible side effects include, bruising, pain, lumps and bumps, redness at injection site. For a complete list of side effects, talk to your medical practitioner.

Q. How long does it last?
A. 
Treatments  provide results that can last from 6 months to 24 months depending on products used.

 

Q. What is Profhilo?
A. 
Profhilo is an injectable skin remodelling treatment that is used for its subtle but immediate hydrating and skin tightening results. It contains the highest concentration of HA (hyaluronic acid) on the market but its not a dermal filler or a wrinkle relaxing injection.


Q. Is it safe?
A. 
As HA occurs naturally in the human body and there is no synthetic chemicals. Profhilo is easily metabolised, causing no long term side effects. 


Q. What areas can be treated?
A. 
Face, neck, décolletage, backs of hands, stomach, upper arms, knees.

  
Q. Who can have the treatment done?
A. 
As with other cosmetic procedures we advise to avoid treatment when pregnant or breast feeding and to be avoided if you are allergic to Hyaluronic acid.

Q. What are the side effects?
A. 
Short term side effects can include bruising, swelling at injection site which self corrects over couple of days.

Q. How long does it last?
A. 
Profhilo generally lasts 6-9 months if 2 treatments are given 1 month apart. After the initial treatments, we recommend coming back every 6-9 months, only 1 syringe will be needed, as this will top up the hydration in the skin and leave you with a glow.
